[The Three Principles] Third Principle – Knowing the Prophet – About Muhammad

Posted on May 8, 2014

His name is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul-Mutallib ibn Hashim, who was from the tribe of Quraysh and Quraysh were Arabs.

The Arabs have descended from Isma’eel, son of Ibraheem al-Khaleel.

The Prophet lived for sixty-three years, forty years before the Prophet-Hood, and twenty-three as a prophet and a messenger.

He was sent as a prophet with the Iqra (i.e. the Soorah al-Alaq)
and as a messenger with (Soorah) al-Mudaththir.

His land was Makkah and he migrated to Madina.

Allah sent him to warn against Shirk and call towards Tawheed,
“O you (Muhammad) enveloped (in garments)! Arise and warn!
And magnify your Lord! And purify your garments!
And keep away from ar-Rujz!
And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah’s obedience as a favor to Allah). And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)!”
[Soorah al-Mudhaththir (74): 1-7]

The meaning of,
‘Arise and warn!’ is to warn against Shirk and call to the Tawheed.
“Magnify your Lord!” means honor Him with Tawheed.
“purify your garments!” i.e., purify your actions from Shirk.
“keep away from ar-Rujz,” ar-Rujz are the idols, so keep away from them, and disassociate yourself from them and from its people.

For ten years, the Prophet called the people to Tawheed.
He was then taken up to the heavens (Isra wal-Miraj), where the five prayers were made obligatory.

He prayed in Makkah for three years and after that he was ordered to migrate (make Hijrah) to al-Medina.
